What's Happening With You?

Hello....

At last, Friday is finally here. This week has been a busy one. I'm sure it has been for most of you as well who have kids who started school. Anthony is really enjoying being back, and he's excited about learning lots of new stuff this year. He also started Karate over the Summer, and is having a ton of fun with it.

Last weekend we were doing a lot of running around, so we ate out a couple of times. For lunch we stopped in and checked out the Five Guys Famous Burgers & Fries at the Parkside Mall. They keep it simple there, and do a great job! The burger meat is apparently never frozen, and the fries were really good and hot too! The only thing it was missing were milkshakes. We'll be back, it was that good! If you go, let me know what you think about it.

For dinner we checked out a new place in downtown St. Pete called "Savannah's". It's a Southern Style place, with items on the menu like collard greens, and pulled pork. One of the owners was the owner of Saffron's, which was located on Park Street at Jungle Prada. Dinner was good, but not great. The ambiance is definitely southern. Tall ceilings and slow moving fans circling above give this place the look and feel of Georgia. The sweet tea, not so much.

This week my friend Carlos gave Anthony and I a couple of tickets to go check out the Boston Red Sox v. Tampa Bay Devil Rays game. It was Anthony's first experience at a professional baseball game. It was great!

We got to see a two run homer by the Rays, and the whole place went wild. I will admit, all the chaos did catch Anthony a little off guard. But overall, he said he really enjoyed it and is ready to go back soon, and some more fun.

Not sure what we have planned for this weekend coming up. I'm sure there's some errands to run, and things to do around the house as usual. Maybe we'll get to do some entertaining things. If we do, I'll let you know.

If you have a second, let me know what's happening on your end.

A lot has happened in a month...

I'm baaaaaccck..... (and not in a Poltergeist kinda of way).

I just can't believe that an entire month has flown by since my last post to the blog. Not only that, but I'm a year older (UGH!). Yup - 36 years old. Now that is scary! Four more years to the BIG 4-0 for me - truly troubling, I must say. The bright side, and the best thing is watching Anthony grow up everyday. Kids are wonderful, and Anthony & Donna made my birthday a great one!

I also had many of my relatives down from Canada for my birthday which made it extra special.

Well.... it's crazy how time just flies by anymore, must be a 'gettin' older kinda thing'. Anyway, I'm sure I've complained about this before, and I'll try to keep the issue out of the blog, but unfortunately, it seems to be a reoccurring theme in my life. Anyone else feel like that? :-)

Now for my musings on this past month's events. And there's plenty....

We started off July with Independence Day and 4th of July Fireworks in downtown St. Pete. I'm not too keen about heading into the heart of downtown, so we parked near Bayshore off of Coffee Pot in my new secret location (to avoid traffic and mass confusion), and hoofed it to North Shore Park. The fireworks were good, but not great. Kyra (Steve's little one), and Anthony really enjoyed all the hoopla with countless "oowwws" and "aahhhs".

Oh, and did I mention I got an iPhone in July? ......Just kidding, I'm sure you are all well aware of my purchase. It's pretty neat, you gotta admit...

I've been asked a lot about my thoughts on the iPhone, and I've tried to be as unbiased as possible in light of the fact that I have been a huge Apple/Mac fan since I purchased my laptop in 2004, before opening my own office. Now, my entire practice and home are equipped with Apple computers. If you haven't tried an Apple, I strongly suggest it. You will be pleasantly surprised. Ok, enough hype, now to the iPhone Pros and Cons. First, let me say that by far this is the best mobile phone I've ever owned. If you've known me for long, you know that I had one of the first mobile phones when I graduated high school in 1989, a Nokia bag phone - anyone out there remember that? Needless to say, since that time, I've owned many other cell phones, including various brands and styles. There simply is no mobile phone like the iPhone (well, unless you count the new iPhone clones that some Chinese counterfeiters are making as told to me by my good friend Rom). Most features are simply futuristic, and can be explored at apple.com, if you want to see them all. In a nutshell, the Cons on the phone are as follows: (1) the battery will have to replaced by Apple -when it dies - as it is not something you can take out simply. (2) The camera is a 2.0 megapixel, and takes nice pictures, but a 3.1 megapixel or higher would have been nice. (3) There is no video recording features on this phone - which is a shame in the world of YouTube. (4) Surfing the web on the Edge Network provided by A T & T reminds of logging on to 9600 baud rate on my modem back in 1994 - very painful! (5) I feel like I am going to drop it and lose out on my $600 investment - there is no insurance available through A T & T. Other than that, I JUST LOVE IT!

Ok, what next? Well, out of nowhere, our Siamese cat, Bailey started growing crazy looking spikey green hair out of the top of his head. Can you believe it??

Actually, to be honest, Donna's sister's children, Chris & Tyler spent a couple weeks with us, and this is one of the crazy pictures we took of them fooling around with Bailey. He was a good sport about it, considering the other cats we have, Ozzie and Thumper thought he was possessed by some Chinese Pet Food.

My sister Missy and her family came to town from Texas for a month, and we had a ton of fun with them playing in the pool, bowling, and spending time with each other.

Oh..... and there's video of the pool too. Check it out here:

While everyone was in town, we also went over to Mom & Dad's and the kids got to jump off the dock into the Bay. They love it !!! Can you tell?

The problem is, and this is no joke, that the following picture was taken in the backyard of someone's house, only a little way's from Mom & Dad's house. CAN YOU SAY "SCARY!!!!" That's a friggin' huge bull shark caught off of someone's dock!!

Now to safer waters ..... our pool. Here's a picture of Tyler, Anthony, and Donna enjoying the cool and SAFE water of our pool. I'm not sure if it's because I'm an old geezer now, but the heat this Summer has been wicked! (By the way, this picture was taken with the iPhone - not bad, right?)

Oh... and if you didn't know.... Nick turned 22 this year! HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK!

Does anyone think Elle looks like Missee? Send your comments to: Missy Rocha at: themouse15@msn.com - I think she's a "mini-Missee" :-)

And finally, Jim & I made a hike out to Las Vegas to watch the Winky Fight at Mandalay Bay. The fight didn't end up the way I hoped it would, but Vegas was a blast, and a great way to take a break from the rat race. Oh, and I had the pleasure meeting Marvin "Marvelous" Hagler, and one of my favorite boxers (who is fighting a Super Fight soon against Manny Pacquio), Marcos Antonio "the Baby Faced Assassin" Barrera. Another class act. And did you know, he's a lawyer too?

I'm sure that brings you up to speed for the most part, maybe even too much information. I hope you enjoyed the post, and rest assured, I am already working on August's blog. Photos are easier to come by now with the iPhone, so I'm going to try to post more often. I know I've said that before, but here's hoping I find the time, and don't melt in this Florida Summer heat. By the way (whispering), did you notice, there's been no hurricanes this year? :-)

Get out and have some fun!

~Frank
